The Ecole Française de Bristol is a non-profit organisation (registered charity 900410) and a limited liability company (reference 2463900).
The mission of the EFB is to provide high-quality teaching through its team of native French teachers. French lessons are tailored to the needs of the children who may attend the School from the age of three in order to develop their speaking, reading and writing skills to fluent levels by the end of the French “cycle élémentaire” (UK Primary School stage). Pupils are given the opportunity to develop and flourish intellectually, educationally, and socially within welcoming French cultural surroundings.
The EFB offers:
I am very pleased to welcome you to the Ecole Française de Bristol’s website.
Our small school has a rich history and it is nearly 40 years old. It has successfully developed its services and adapted to the needs of its families.
The school moved into new premises in February 2015 and we are now “settled in”.
Thanks to the work of our dynamic and enthusiastic team, to parental involvement and everyone’s support, our school enables its pupils to learn French in a warm environment, to use the language every day and to develop speaking skills together with writing skills.
Our pupils’ progress and regular feedback from families are evidence of the quality of teaching delivered by our school.
I had great pleasure in becoming the school’s Headteacher in September 2017 after having taught different classes there for four years.
I would like to thank the team and parents for the trust that they have placed in me.
I aim to continue the school’s excellent work in order to offer quality services, varied teaching projects and to keep alive its community spirit which brings francophone culture to life and enables our beautiful language to flourish.
Official recognition (homologation) is granted by the French Ministry of Education to schools and teaching institutions abroad that apply the same teaching curriculum as that in the French State Education system.
In January 2005, official recognition (homologation) was granted to the “petite et moyenne sections” (children aged 3 and 4 years and the only class running on a full-time basis) and is annually renewed (subject to submission of a dossier or to an inspection). Under certain terms and conditions, parents can apply for a grant towards the fees for a child attending this class. Please visit the Eduscol website for further information.
This recognition entitles the EFB to belong to the AEFE (Agency for French Teaching Abroad) network. A qualified primary school teacher must oversee the teaching and follow the French National Curriculum. The French Ministry of Education reserves the right to conduct an inspection.
Maternelle (Nursery School) and day classes, as well as holiday club classes are registered with the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted). They must comply with the regulations laid down by this body with regard to the teaching, well-being, health and protection of a child.
In December 2010, the teaching staff were praised for the quality of teaching following an Ofsted inspection of the nursery school classes. According to the report, “the children are relaxed, happy and enthusiastically participate in the chosen activities”.
On taking up residence in the new premises at the Fonthill Centre on 14 February 2015, the EFB was issued with a new reference number : URN (Unique Reference Number) – EY486621.
The Bristol Standard is a nursery school self-evaluation framework and is recognised nationally. The teaching staff can use it not only to appraise their objectives and teaching activities and monitor children’s experiences in play and learning, but also to evaluate the operational side and continuing development of the School. The EFB submits a dossier each year to receive a certificate.
